It's a...

We are happy to announce that God has blessed us with another boy!  Kellen is going to have a brother!!!  Evan and  I are shocked, but insanely happy!  The ultrasound was fantastic.  It lasted about 45 minutes, which is just awesome!  Kellen was getting a little irritated and bored (which is why Evan isn't facing the camera).  The ultrasound showed that my little boy is growing perfectly, right on track!!!  Everything looked great!  My symptoms were nothing like they were with Kellen so we all thought sweet pea was a girl, but God had a different plan for us. Evan was the last of the Martzes to carry on the Martz family, but now we are certain to continue on with this great family!  Someone asked me if I was sad that we aren't having a girl.  I instinctively answered, NO!!!  Perhaps we were meant to raise good strong boys to be wonderful men. I am going to love watching my two son's enjoy the blessing of having a brother to rely on, to get into trouble with, to love their mommy forever.  Brothers are special.  They are perfect.  I am blessed and so very thankful. I have fallen in love all over again.  Here is a little glimpse of our afternoon..and it couldn't have gone any better. :)

OMG, did you say you see "boy parts"?!?!?!?!

OMG I am going to have 2 little Kellens to chase after!!

Look at that perfect profile!!! Looks identical to Kellen.

I am IN LOVE all over again!!! I can't stop crying!

The sweetest little feet that love to kick me!

Hi mom! I promise to take it easy on you! He was waving at us! :)

This is what sweet pea is up to this week!
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

You may be expecting...but not expecting this. Part 2

Since the moment I found out that I am pregnant I started having the most vivid and crazy dreams!  Apparently these crazy dreams are typical during pregnancy!  I had no idea!  I dream mostly about 1. being chased, 2. falling, 3. my sweet pea.  I've always been fascinated by dreams.  I believe that they are your minds way of giving you some kind of sign.  I don't take them seriously really, I just pay attention to them and try and remember the details in them.  I know that being chased and falling are 2 very common dreams.  They both are directly related to stress.  Most people are stressed, which is why they are SO common.  I've had quite a few gender dreams lately!  I usually see a little girl in my dream.  She looks just like me.  These dreams are the best!  And make me so happy to see my sweet pea!  Last night my dream was really weird.  Evan and I were at the anatomy scan (scheduled for Monday, whoot whoot). The ultrasound tech was scanning my belly and at first we were told that sweet pea was a girl. The tech showed us where to look and my baby in my belly was wearing a bright pink onsie that read, "its a girl" LOL!!!! Evan and I smiled!  We started calling and texting all our friends and family that we were having a girl.  Then the tech kept looking around and saw another section of the onsie written in bright blue, "its a boy!" I woke up all freaked out and even more anxious to find out! What is my mind trying to tell me???  Am I having twins?  These pregnancy dreams sure are weird!  I've been told by many mommy friends that when you dream of a girl, then that means you will have a boy!  And visa versa.

Only 3 more days to go!!!  Did you cast your vote for a boy or a girl?  I will share the news as quick as I can on my blog!  The appointment is at 1:40.  My awesome friend Jen is coming with me, Evan and Kellen to share in the excitement.  And trust me, she wont give it away!

Maternity clothes? Maternity Pants, some maternity shirts.

Stretch marks? Not yet...but I am sure that I will!
I bought some Bella B Tummy Honey Butter to help prevent stretch marks

Sleep:   I am past the exhaustion phase!  I've been waking up about 3 times during the night to pee, but my hips are already starting to hurt so that wakes me up a few times during the night too.

Best moment this week: I've been feeling sweet pea everyday this week!  I can feel the kicks and pushes!  This is the very best feeling!  I can be having the worse day, but as soon as I feel that little love tap all I can do is smile and give thanks.

Miss Anything? Not a thing!

Movement: Yes!!!

Food cravings: Still loving my lemon water!  And I can never get enough skittles!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope! YAY!

Gender: We don't know yet!

Here is what sweet pea is up to:

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom.  Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Kellen's 15 month update

Kellen had his 15 month check up on Friday. He did so well! He was running all around the drs office clapping his hands and growling like Godzilla (his newest thing that is WAY cute!!!)His measurements include:

Weight: 23 lbs
Height: 32 inches

His stats have slowed down a bit. The pedi told me that was completely normal around this age and Kellen is completely healthy! YAY!

Then came the dreaded shots. He was running around so happy and being so silly our hearts were breaking to know that his happiness would soon come to an end. I held him on my lap and took a deep breath as they told me to hold Kellen's hands down.  The nurse gave him his shots and he didn't even cry!!!! Seriously, NO CRYING! Evan and I looked at each other so surprised!

After his appointment we went out an bought him a little Cars 2 toy since he did so well at the doctors. Such a brave little boy!

Here are some more of Kellen's 15 month old stats:

Size clothes: 12 or 18 month pants, 18 or 24 month shirts
Size diapers: Size 5
Sleeping patterns: Bedtime is 9:30pm, wakes up at 9:30am.  Nap is 2:00pm-4:00pm
Favorite food: EVERYTHING!  He seriously will eat anything!!  I gave him blueberries today and he didn't care for those.  But he eats everything that Evan and I eat.
Favorite toy:  He really loves balls.
New milestones:

* Kellen has learned how to kick the ball.
* He is brushing his teeth so well and by himself.
* I love watching him run around the house screaming and clapping his hands, its so amazing to see such a happy little boy!  Makes us so proud!
* He likes to go into his room and shut the door.
* He floats by himself in the bath tub.
* If you ask him to give you a "high 5" he will!!!  Love that!
* He gives mommy (and only mommy, hehehe) kisses!
* He LOVES LOVES LOVES playing outside, see picture below!
* This isn't a milestone, but he hates getting his diaper changed!  He gets SO mad!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

I love making things on my own.  I like making my own home decorations, hand made cards, jewelry, mobiles, and now I've moved on to making my own laundry detergent!  I made my very first batch on Wednesday night.  It took about 20 minutes to make.  And it was REALLY easy!  After I made it (2 gallons worth) I had to let it set so it could gel for 24 hours.  So, last night I used it for the first time.  As it turns out this homemade laundry detergent works better than any store bought detergent that I have ever used.  Plus it only cost me....71 cents for 2 gallons, or 64 loads!!!!!  Incredible savings!  Here is the recipe and directions if you want to try it yourself.  The following came from: http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap.htm

You will need 3 basic ingredients; a soap of some sort, washing soda and borax.

The Soap:  The most typical type of soap to use is Fels Naptha.  It is an old-fashioned type of soap usually found in the laundry aisle.  The other options for soap are Ivory or another brand called, Zote.  Any of these will work.  I use my own homemade soap and find it works quite well and I do have this for sale in my Country Store.  If you use Ivory or your own homemade soap you will need to use the whole bar.

Washing Soda: This is not to be confused with baking soda.  They are not the same thing.  Washing soda is sodium carbonate or soda ash (baking soda is sodium bicarbonate).  It is a white powder.  Its purpose is to help remove dirt and orders.   The brand to look for is Arm & Hammer Washing Soda.  I find it in the laundry section of my grocery store.   Many people have a hard time finding this locally.  I know you can purchase it on-line, even through Amazon.com.  I would also suggest asking your grocery store manager if it would be possible for the store to get it for you.

Borax: Borax is a naturally occurring mineral: Sodium Borate.  It is a white powder.  It’s purpose is as a laundry whitener and deodorizer. The brand to look for is 20 Mule Team.  It comes in a 76 oz. box.  You should be able to locate this in the laundry detergent aisle.  Again as with the washing soda, if you cannot find it ask you store manager or look online.

Homemade Laundry Soap
1/3 bar Fels Naptha or other type of soap, as listed above
½ cup washing soda
½ cup borax powder
~You will also need a small bucket, about 2 gallon size~

Grate the soap and put it in a sauce pan.  Add 6 cups water and heat it until the soap melts.  Add the washing soda and the borax and stir until it is dissolved.  Remove from heat.  Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket.   Now add your soap mixture and stir.  Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir.  Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel.  You use ½ cup per load.

**A few things to note about the soap**

~The finished soap will not be a solid gel.  It will be more of a watery gel that has been accurately described as an "egg noodle soup" look.

~The soap is a low sudsing soap.  So if you don’t see suds, that is ok.  Suds are not what does the cleaning, it is the ingredients in the soap.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's day!  I hope you all had a really sweet day today!  Since Evan works second shift, we don't get to see each other today, so we are going to pretend that Valentine's day is Friday.

Kellen got his very first Valentine today, from a SUPER cute little girl named Abby Love!!  How cute is that!!!

He also got 2 presents in the mail!  He got a package from Char Char and PapPap and Aunt Kathy!  Here is a video and some pictures.

Kellen LOVED opening his packages!
First, Char Char and PapPaps!
He is so advanced!  He will learn Spanish in no time!
Hmm...looks interesting!  Thank you Char Char and PapPap!!!!  Love you!
Next package!  This is from Aunt Kathy!
  What is in here?
Sweet!  A new ball cap and a big boy cup!  I love it when he wears hats!  And he is drinking out of a straw now, he bypassed the sippy cup and went straight to the straw!!  Smart boy!
Happy dance carrying around his new cup and wearing his new hat.

Thank you Charlene, Les and Kathy for Kellen's Valentine's presents!  You all made Evan, me and most importantly Kellen VERY happy! =)

Your pregnancy back pain may have you tied up in knots, but your baby's getting ready to bust a move. At five and a half inches long and five ounces in weight, he now may be large enough for you to feel him twisting, rolling, kicking, and punching his way around the womb. Plus, he's developing yawning and hiccupping skills (you may feel those soon, too!) and his own unique set of toe and fingerprints.

You may be expecting...but not expecting this! Part 1

This pregnancy has been so different for me!  With Kellen everything was a dream!  No sickness, no fatigue, no mood swings, everything was perfect!  This time I am really experiencing what a real pregnancy is all about!!  So, I am going to start a new series on my blog.  It's called "You may be expecting....but not expecting this!"

I was NOT expecting the common side effect of pregnancy called
"pink toothbrush"!!!
So basically, and this is kind of gross, I brush my teeth and when I spit, I spit out blood!  Can you image how freaked out I was when this first happened?  And it didn't just happen once, it kept on happening, everytime I brushed my teeth!  Now, I will admit, I am very hygienic.  I brush my teeth at least 3 times a day, and floss every morning and night and use mouthwash.  I take really good care of my teeth!!  What is going on!!!  After a couple of days of spitting out blood and quietly freaking out I had to consult google.  What I found was that I am normal!!  YES, I AM!  Google said so!  It's caused by pregnancy hormones resulting in swollen and inflamed gums that can bleed more easily.  If you experience "pink toothbrush" you should switch to a soft bristle toothbrush (I've always used medium) and/or use a mild toothpaste.

This was without a doubt something that I wasn't prepared for, but a wonderful experience learning about it.

Today is Wednesday, over the hump day.  Eh.  Just 2 more days until the weekend!!!

Baby Lisa

It was on my mommy forum where I learned the terrifying news of 11 month old, Baby Lisa.  If you don't know what I am talking about I will give you a quick run down.  In October 2011, this sweet baby girl slept in her crib, her father was at work, her mother at home but drunk and sleeping her bed with her 2 brothers, someone snuck into the home and kidnapped Baby Lisa...or so they say.

On Friday Dr. Phil conducted the first interview with the parents in 3 months. The parents denied all media interviews to "help the media and police focus on finding Lisa."  I TiVo'd the episode and watched it last night.  The mother is being attacked by all sides blaming her for possibly doing something to her baby.  She sticks to her story, that someone kidnapped her sweet 11 month old.  And my goodness, she is SO pretty!  Such a perfect little girl.  A few things that stood out for me while I watched the show.  The mom's reaction to her missing daughter seemed very genuine.  She cried so hard when she was asked to talk about her, a natural instinct was the impression I got.  Her painful tears brought uncontrollable tears to my eyes too.  The father wept as he listened to his girlfriend.  There isn't much that will keep me from crying, but seeing these parents long for their daughter really hurt my heart.  I was a little disturbed though.  The mom seemed so defensive and would often go off on tangents talking about how attacked she has felt when Dr Phil asked her a question about the case.  It was almost like she was making the interview about herself.  That was really surprising to me.  As a mother, I wouldn't care if people were accusing me.  All I would care about it finding my child.  All that matters is finding my baby.  That's it.  Nothing else.  Another thing that got me was that she said that she can't remember if she checked on her baby before she went to bed!  Now, she said that she was drunk, which I don't blame her for drinking, but getting drunk when you are responsible for caring for your 3 children is in my opinion neglect.  I check on Kellen multiple times at night and without a doubt, I check on him before I lay myself down to sleep!  How could you not?  Especially if you choose to leave the windows unlocked and open, and leave the front door unlocked.

This story really breaks my heart.  I pray that this mother didn't do something horrible to her daughter.  I hope that her daughter is still alive and will be returned safely right now.  I am scared that this will turn into a cold case.  I pray that it doesn't.  God Bless Baby Lisa.
