Reflections

2011.  For the most part 2011 was a really good year for us.  We got to enjoy a full year loving our sweet little boy and watching him grow.  He started to eat big boy foods and drink from a straw.  He learned how to crawl and climb on everything.  He started laughing and calling our names.  He has made our lives much better and much brighter.  In 2011 we found out that we are going to be able to experience the biggest joy in the world all over again!  My grandma spent the year completely cancer free!  I hope and pray that she continues to be in EXCELLENT health for 2012!  My best friend is in the process of adopting 2 Haitian girl babies!  I am sure she is really excited about 2012 because this year she will probably have her daughters at home with her.  I reconnected with a lot of old friends this year, and made several new friends.  Evan and I are still working for a really good company, who takes very good care of us.  I can't complain at all about 2011, but I can say that I am really looking forward to 2012!

Several friends of mine and some family too, went through some changes.  For some, those changes weren't very good.  Some separations, divorce, job losses and death of loved ones.  I pray that they are able to appreciate the time that they had in 2011 and are blessed with a very positive and joyful 2012.

Here we are ringing in 2011!

Crazy Kellen and 12 Weeks!

Kellen is certainly making our lives very full and very busy!  It is so fun watching all the changes that he is going through.  He is really trying to walk, but hasn't walked more than a couple steps independently.  We know that he can do it, but it seems like he thinks that crawling or holding on to something is much easier and faster and probably safer.  He LOVES to run and play chase in the walker that Barb Bush got him.  Thanks again Barb!  We really appreciate this gift!  Playing with this is an evening ritual. Everyday after supper he runs around screaming and laughing in his walker.  So much fun!  Here he is being his crazy self!!

Playing!

He is still in size 5 Pampers and wears size 12-18 months.  He consistently says, BubBub, DadDad, MumMum, and hi.  He eats pretty much anything.  I just gave him his first taste of peanut butter today.  No negative reaction, so I might try giving him peanut butter crackers for snack today.  He is becoming more snugglie these days, which is the BEST feeling in the world!

In pregnancy news, I've been taking weekly belly pics and plan to continue watching my expanding belly through out this pregnancy.  It is fun watching me get bigger and bigger!  Here is the latest belly pic, at 12 weeks.

I've had really bad morning sickness for a couple of months now, so much that my OB prescribed a safe medicine for me to take, called Zofran.  I was throwing up more than I was actually eating, so for the health of my baby and for myself, I will take this medicine until I don't need it anymore.  Since I've been so sick, my energy level was a little low, but not too bad.  Other than the morning sickness I feel really good.  Being pregnant has still not kicked in with me and Evan, but Sweet Pea is in there!  I can't wait until Thursday to hear Sweet Pea's heartbeat and to find out the BPM!

This is what is Sweet Pea is doing this week:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Christmas at the Martzes!

I just have to say, this Christmas was the very best Christmas that I have EVER had!  Last Christmas was wonderful because it was mine and Evan's first Christmas with Kellen.  And THAT made the holiday so much more special, PLUS Christmas day last year my sweet little monster turned 2 months old and it was the first time that Kellen actually smiled in response to me and Evan.  This Christmas Kellen turned 14 months and he is SO close to walking (he actually does walk...on his knees!!!)!  He isn't at the age where he wakes up at the crack of dawn, tears into mummum and daddad's room to wake us up, but he was VERY interested in the packages, especially the pretty bows on the presents.

I really love family traditions, so I wanted to start one for our family.  We decided that we would buy each other a new pair of pajamas for Christmas Eve so we could all sleep in really comfy pajamas and open our presents in them too.  So Christmas Eve we opened our presents to each other.

Here is Kellen sitting on MY Christmas Eve present!

Sophia was ready for Santa too!

Then we all went to sleep and Santa came!!!

We took a quick picture of us in our new pajamas.

Kellen was patiently waiting for us to get our coffee!

Then he couldn't stand waiting anymore and started ripping off the bows!

And then he discovered his Lightning McQueen Race Car!

The first present that Kellen opened was from CharChar and PapPap.  It was a stuffed Husky (who looks just like our Husky Kaden) who responds by barking and Husky singing to a book called "Jingle All The Way" as you read it.  Here is the video of Kellen opening his first present.

He loves this toy!

After all the presents were opened we had Christmas brunch.  We had such a great time, I think we might make that a new Martz tradition!

The rest of the day we just relaxed and played with Kellen's new toys.

Merry Christmas!!!  I hope that you all had a beautiful holiday!!!

I can't believe that it is almost 2012!  In 6 months we will have a new little addition to our family!  Today I am 11 weeks and 4 days.  My next appointment is Jan 5. We will be able to hear the heart beat for the first time!  I will try and get a sound sample to share on my blog.  But, for now, here is a little info about what is going on with Sweet Pea.

Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.
She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.
See what your baby looks like this week.

Questions Answered...

Since my last 2 entries a few people have asked me a couple questions.

1.  Why did you name the baby sweet pea?  We decided to name the baby sweet pea because when we found out that we are being blessed with another baby, the baby inside of me was the size of a sweet pea!!!  So tiny!

2. Why did your due date change by 9 days?  My due date was July 5, according to my LMP (last menstrual period), then my obgyn changed it to July 14. She said that since my cycles were at approximately 34 days before and when I got pregnant with Kellen, and since I had just stopped breastfeeding it looks like I actually ovulated later than a typical 28 day cycle. I think she is right though because I still didn't have a full cycle and I wasn't watching to find out when I ovulated.  We still don't really know, my ob just makes her best guess.  That is why it is so rare that a baby is born on it's due date.

If you have any questions, just leave it in the comment section or email me.  I am happy to answer. :)

It's almost time!!!

I am so excited this Christmas!  I am really enjoying showing Kellen all the beautiful Christmas lights!  I decorated the back yard full of holly and white lights.  At night we sit outside cuddled in a blanket and just look at the lights and the stars.  That is truly my favorite time of the day!  We've been playing lots of Christmas music, mostly the old classics and some Jazz and he really likes it!  I am not surprised really though, he is really in to music!  He always has been, even while I was pregnant with him!  The other night we were watching Polar Express and while he didn't sit still the whole time while it was playing, he did stop to watch it and would even occasionally climb up on the couch next to me and snuggle and watched it.  I LOVE that he does that, climbing up on the couch just because he wants to sit next to me, I LOVE THAT!  I have only one more thing to buy him for Christmas, even though the Christmas tree is already full of presents from Aunt Tae Tae!  I know this is going to be a beautiful Christmas and I can't wait to share it with my boys.

Kellen puts on the first ornament.  It is his very first ornament given to him last year by Marilyn.

All finished.

 Our window boxes.

Porch.

Kellen's super cute kissy face!

Stacey and Tiffany came down for a quick visit!!!  Always love seeing my sisters!  And Kellen and Evan does too!

Kellen is getting so big and turning into one amazing little boy!

Getting excited for Christmas!!!  If I had gotten this shot a few days earlier THIS pic would have been our Christmas Card!

So, I am now 10 weeks and 5 days pregnant (206 days to go!).  This is what is happening with my sweet pea.

Though he's barely the size of a kumquat(click) — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.

If you could take a peek inside your womb.. Click here to see!!!), you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size(click) — to nearly 3 inches.

We're Having Another Baby!!!

It's true!  I will start from the beginning.  I've been breast feeding Kellen since the day he was born.  It was my goal to breast feed him until he turned one.  On September 29 I got my first postpartum period.  My milk supply stared to go down right away.  On October 17 I stopped completely.  Kellen turned one on the 25th, so I reached my goal!  I was beyond proud of myself!  We went to Pennsylvania for our vacation, and when we came back home on November 2 I was expecting to get my period any day.  On November 8 I realized that it had been 41 days...I thought for sure that my cycle was just off since I was just getting back to normal.  Eventually on the 43rd day, November 10 I took a test.  There were 2 blazing pink lines, it was positive!  I couldn't believe it!  I took another test...it was positive.  I immediately told Evan and we were both in shock!  On November 14 I took another test, still positive.  I called my OB and scheduled THE appointment.  We waited until I was 8 weeks to tell anyone.  For now until we find out the gender we are calling this sweet baby, sweet pea.

I went for my first ultrasound yesterday.  I thought that according to my last period, I was 10 weeks and 6 days, but when my OB measured the baby I am actually 9 weeks and 4 days.  Sweet pea baby looked great and we saw a sweet little heartbeat, which was beating at about 150 bmp.  When we went for Kellen's first ultrasound he was swimming all around in my belly, but sweet pea was very calm and moved just a little.  I hope that means that sweet pea is going to be a calmer baby compared to Kellen!

We are still in shock and honestly it still doesn't seem real!  We are very happy to be extending our family but still a bit surprised that God had this plan for us.  We have the anatomy scan scheduled for February 27.  But we aren't going to find out the gender until March 2.  We are going to have a little gender reveal party!  On Monday the tech will seal our gender picture in an envelope so we can't peak.  Then my friend Jen is going to safe keep the envelope until our party on Friday where we will all find out the sex at the same time.  I can't wait to find out!!!  But, I am going to be strong and wait like everyone else.

Here is a picture of the ultrasound.  Sweet Pea's head is at the top of the picture.  His/her hands are tucked in front of his/her face and the little legs are tucked up, so that is why sweet pea looks like 2 connected balls.  Sweet Pea is already beautiful and we are so much in love!!!!  Oh!!!!  My due date was July 5, now it is July 14.  At first I was bummed because I liked the idea of the due date being the same as Evan's bday, but now that it is extended the chances of sweet pea being born on Evan's birthday is much higher.
