The day before...

Today was the day before the biggest day of my life.  For some reason, I woke up this morning at exactly 6am, just like I did exactly one year ago today.  Last year at 6am I started leaking amniotic fluid.  We rushed to the hospital and endured 26 hours of labor.  I spent the day laying in the hospital bed looking over the Blue Ridge Mountains and enjoying the peak leaf colors.  My best friend flew in as fast as she could to be there to hold my hand along side Evan.  It was a painful, but beautiful day.

Tomorrow is my sweet Kellen's first birthday.  I can't believe that he is already one.  I really feel like I was just in the hospital waiting to deliver this most precious gift from God.

Maddie

I tried to blog about this yesterday, but every time I sat down, I got upset and cried.  On October 14, 2010 precious Madison Paige Staats was born, just 11 days before Kellen.  She is the most perfect and beautiful baby girl!  Her mommy and daddy love her so much!  And Kellie is an amazing and inspirational mommy.  On February 17, 2011 while at her babysitters, 4 month old Maddie went to be with Jesus.  She passed away from SIDS.  It was devastating and tragic.  I can't image the pain that her parents feel.  Kellie's story reminds me how precious life is and it makes me hug Kellen SO much harder and longer.  It makes me want to be the BEST mom I can be for him and protect him no matter what and no matter who might not like my over protectiveness of him.  I would rather be the overbearing and over protective mom than to ever have to go through what Kellie is going through.  The most devastating thing a mommy could go through.  I follow what is recommended to TRY and prevent SIDS, although we know SIDS isn't avoidable, and neither is God's plan, but there ARE ways to reduce the risks of SIDS.  The following information came straight from Kellie's blog http://kandjstaats.blogspot.com/.

1Back to sleep- NEVER place a baby in a crib on their stomach!

2.Use a firm sleep surface

3Keep soft objects and loose bedding out of the crib (blankets, stuffed animals ect..)

4. DO NOT USE BUMPERS (if you choose to do so..use breathable ones only!)

5.
Do not smoke during pregnancy - Do not let your infant be around smoke at all!

6.
A separate but proximate sleeping environment is recommended

7.
Consider offering a pacifier at nap time and bedtime

8.
Avoid overheating- Install a ceiling fan in the babies room. Put it on low.

9.
Encourage “tummy time” when the infant is awake and observed.

After reading this information I followed it to a T!  And always will, even with our next baby.   I immediately bought an Angel Care monitor and used it until Kellen was 11 months old.  If you or you know someone with a newborn or a baby under the age of 1, please take the time to share this message and the information about SIDS.

God bless you Kellie, James and Madison.  We love you and pray that one day you can wake up with out crying over your loss and feel comfort in knowing that you ARE helping spread SIDS awareness.  Much love to you.

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY MADDIE!!!!!!

Mommy's Little Monster!

Kellen is surely cracking me up!  He does this funny thing now.  I will look at him and say while shaking my head, "Are you a CRAZY baby?" and he will smile the biggest cutest smile and shake his head no.  He shakes it soooo hard he almost falls over and loses his balance!!  It is really funny!  I've been teaching him to pucker up when I say, "Mummy needs a kiss." and sometimes he will lean in to kiss me, sometimes he will turn his head away from me.  However, when daddy tries to give him a kiss he will either turn his head away OR (and I think this is hilarious), he give Evan the "stiff arm" and won't let him kiss him.  So funny!!!

Then other other day Evan was trying to baby proof our TV stand because Kellen has figured out how to open the drawer and pull out all of Evan's electronic stuff and chew on them.  So, Evan found a bracket to latch the door.  But, Kellen didn't want him to!  Kellen was yelling at Evan, climbing all over him, pulling his hair and pulling his ears.  I guess he REALLY didn't want THAT baby proofed!

And, Kellen's nick name has changed from Bean to....MONSTER!  My little monster!  I am constantly laughing at my little monster!

A little update

Hello!!!  So, my life is still insanely busy, but I think I am handling everything better.  Kellen is all over the place and does new things all the time, but for now I can keep up with him.  I swear every day Evan and I stare at him and admire the little boy who is growing up before our eyes.  I can't wait to bring him to PA to visit family and friends!  Ya'll are going to be so surprised to see how much he has changed!  The dates for his birthday parties have changed a little.  The North Carolina party will be on Sunday 10/23 from 1-3 and the Pennsylvania party will be on Sunday 10/30 from 1-3. It is going to be another busy trip, but I can't wait!!!!!!  The invitations are taking a little longer than expected to make, but they will go out in the mail no later than this Saturday.

Have a great day!
